Coalfish.
A few years ago my family and me went to Norway to spend our holidays there. The coalfish.
In the average Norwegian fjord, you can almost always find large schools of
coalfish.
So finding a good fishing spot is not that difficult
The first couple of casts I tried werent with a flyrod but with spinning gear and a
silver spoon as bait
It didnt take long before I caught my first coaly not a very big fish but I was
pleased with my first fish of the day.
I did catch some more in just a few minutes time.
The fish just rammed on the spoon, time to get my flyrod I thought.
I ran to my car to get my flyrod as soon as possible.
This gave the same results, though you had to strip in the line with 2 hands to get more
speed in your streamer.
The funniest part is that if coalfish starts to hunt it can end up in a real eating
frenzy.
I did see some fish land on the shore because of this eating rage.
After the frenzy you could find the small herrings, they did hunt on, between the stones.
I had some evenings that every cast I made ended with a fish
I used a parabolic flyrod AFTMA 5 and a fast sinking fly line to get the streamer down.
The light rod was no problem for the relative small fish 35-cm
The flys I used were very simple.
You just could tie on every streamer you like, if they contain white and some glitter
Were you have to be lucky with is the size of the fish.
4 years ago the fish I caught was much bigger as this year.
But be careful the chance of catching a very large one is also possible, and then you have
to prepare your self on a very long fight.
But as I told you before you have to be lucky to find large fish in the fjords.
It also can depend on in witch fjord you fish.
The best chance of catching a bigger fish is from a boat.
You can also catch more different species of fish from a boat like Pollack, Mackerel, and
Cod.
From the shore it is most likely to catch coalfish.
